DRAGONFLY AS SPIRIT GUIDE

Dragonfly is a very powerful spirit, even though it is an insect. Dragonflies are one of the fastest flying insects in world, capable of flying up to 35 mph. They're also the most agile, having the ability to fly backwards, sideways, change direction in mid air, and hover for up to a minute. They are predators as well as prey, eating smaller insects while being eaten by larger ones. They are usually found around some kind of water source, because they're larvae (known as "nymphs") are aquatic. Actually, the majority of the dragonfly's life is spent living in the water, and only the last few months are spent above water, and flying around.

The Dragonfly symbolizes maturity and depth of character. Most of our lives may have been spent "under the water", trying to look above with an un clear view. But when we finally do break the surface, and unsubmerged ourselves, we will grow wings and go above and beyond what we ever thought possible. It is also a symbol of power and poise. You have the ability to take a step back, to view the whole picture. While progression is good, it is also beneficial to look at things from different angles, and sometimes even pause to breathe in the beauty of each moment. The Dragonfly teaches us to defeat self created illusions. Their entire bodies are covered with reflective, and iridescent "armor". Be the light that shines in this world, and cast aside the illusions, cling to truth. Also this incredible little insect urges us to live in the moment. Our time here, especially our time as an evolved and enlightened spirit may be short. But cherish each moment on your journey. Each obstacle contains a lesson to be learned. Be like the Dragonfly and open your eyes, have large eyes to observe. Without observing, we could never learn.
